Author Guidelines

1. About the Journal

Neuroscience Research and Clinical Practice is an international, peer-reviewed journal that aims to advance the understanding of the brain, nervous system, and neurological disorders. The journal provides a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research in both basic and clinical neuroscience, fostering the translation of laboratory discoveries into clinical applications.

The journal covers a broad range of topics, including but not limited to: Molecular and cellular neuroscience, Neurophysiology and neuroanatomy, Neurological diseases and disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, stroke), Neuroimaging and neurodiagnostic techniques, Neuropharmacology and neurotherapeutics, Neurogenetics and neurodevelopmental disorders, Behavioral neuroscience and cognitive function, Brain-machine interfaces and neuroengineering, Neurosurgical techniques and innovations and related topics.

2. Article Publishing Charge

Authors who publish open access in NRCP are required to pay an article processing charge (APC).

The current APC, subject to VAT or local taxes where applicable, is: $2000.00 (Waived for Manuscripts submitted before December 31, 2025).

All applications for discretionary APC waivers and discounts should be made at the point of manuscript submission; requests made during the review process or after acceptance are unable to be considered.

3. Preparing Your Paper

3.1 Article Types

NRCP accepts the following types of article:

• Original Research
• Review Article
• Case Report

3.2 Language Types

NRCP only publishes manuscripts in English. Presenting your work in well-written English gives it its best chance for editors and reviewers to understand it and evaluate it fairly.

3.3 File Formats

You are encouraged to use the Microsoft word (DOC, DOCX) template when preparing a submission.

Please note: editable files are required for processing in production. If your manuscript contains any non-editable files (such as PDFs) you will be required to re-submit an editable file when you submit your revised manuscript, or after editorial acceptance in case no revision is necessary.

3.4 Sections in Manuscripts

Manuscripts submitted for research and review articles in the journal should be divided into the following sections:

3.4.1 Title

The title should be a short, informative and containing the major key words. Authors should avoid the use of non-standard abbreviations and question marks in titles. The first letter of each word should be in capital letters except for articles, conjunctions and prepositions.

3.4.2 Abstract

The abstract of an article should be a clear, concise and accurate summary, having no more than 250 words. Use of abbreviations should be avoided and the references should not be cited in the abstract.

3.4.3 Keywords

Please provide 3-7 keywords. Choose important and relevant keywords that researchers in your field will be searching for so that your paper will appear in a database search.

3.4.4 Figures

Authors are encouraged to send the highest-quality (a wide variety of formats, sizes, and resolutions) figures. For all other images, if colour enhances your submission and improves its readability, please supply the appropriate figure (s) in colour. Please choose colours carefully and use pastel shades to ensure a high standard of presentation. The editors reserve the right to add colour where it will improve the article. Legends should be concise but comprehensive, the figure and its legend must be understandable without reference to the text. Include definitions of any symbols used and define/explain all abbreviations and units of measurement.

3.4.5 Tables

Tables should be self-contained and complement, not duplicate, information contained in the text. They should be supplied as editable files, not pasted as images. Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the tables, legends, and footnotes must be understandable without reference to the text. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes.

3.4.6 Equations

Please ensure that equations are editable.

3.4.7 Complying with Ethics of Experimentation

All manuscripts submitted to the NRCP must follow the COPE guidelines. NRCP has the authority to decline the research which doesn’t meet the ethical standards.

3.4.8 Research Involving Human Subjects

Research involving human subjects or human tissues should follow the Declaration of Helsinki (https://www.wma.net/what-we-do/medical-ethics/declaration-of-helsinki/).

The studies involving human participants must be approved by the appropriate institutional ethics committee. Informed written consent from all participants should be provied. Authors should include the statement in the manuscript, for example:

“The study was conducted under the Declaration of Helsinki, and was approved by the Ethics Committee of XXX. All subjects have given their informed consent to participate in this study.”

If the study doesn't require ethical approval or consent procedures, authors need to provide the exemption statement obtained from the ethics committee.

3.4.9 Research Involving Animal Subjects

NRCP endorses the ARRIVE guidelines (arriveguidelines.org/) for reporting experiments involving live animals. Authors need to use the ARRIVE guidelines as a checklist. Editors reserve the right to request the checklist and reject submissions that do not meet ARRIVE guidelines. Clinical studies involving animals and interventions outside of routine care require ethics committee oversight as per the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Research involving animals should be approved by the ethics committee or institutional review board. Authors should include the statement in the manuscript, for example:

“The study was approved by XXX of ethics committee/institutional review board.”

Research involving animals comply with the 3Rs:

(1) Replacement: replacing animal experiments with alternative methods wherever possible;

(2) Reduction: decreasing the number of animals used in experiments;

(3) Refinement: refining methods to improve animal welfare and reduce suffering.

If the study is exempt from ethical approval, authors need to provide the exemption statement obtained from the ethics committee or institutional review board.

3.4.10 Clinical Trials

NRCP follows the Clinical Trial Registration Statement from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). All clinical trials must be registered in a public trials registry at or before the onset of participant enrolment. Authors shouls include the information of the clinical trial registration in the manuscript.

Clinical trial reports should be compliant with the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials, templates for these can be found at: http://www.consort-statement.org.

3.4.11 Availability of Data and Materials

The journal is committed to facilitating openness, transparency and reproducibility of research, and has the following research data sharing policy.

Subject to appropriate ethical and legal considerations, authors are encouraged to:

Share your research data in relevant public data repositories, including a data availability statement linked to your data.

If it is not possible to share your data, we encourage you to consider using the statement to explain why it cannot be shared.

3.4.12 Funding

Please supply all details required by your funding and grant-awarding bodies as follows:

For single agency grants
This work was supported by the [Funding Agency] under Grant [number xxxx].
For multiple agency grants
This work was supported by the [Funding Agency #1] under Grant [number xxxx]; [Funding Agency #2] under Grant [number xxxx]; and [Funding Agency #3] under Grant [number xxxx].

3.4.13 Declaration of Competing Interest

Corresponding authors, on behalf of all the authors of a submission, must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. If there is no conflict of interest, please state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

3.4.14 Acknowledgements

In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments).

3.4.15 References

References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text (including table captions and figure legends) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript.

In the text, reference numbers should be placed in square brackets [ ], and placed before the punctuation; for example [1], [1–3] or [1,3].

References should be described as follows, depending on the type of work:

Journal Articles:

1. Author 1, A.B.; Author 2, C.D. Title of the article. Abbreviated Journal Name Year, Volume, page range.

Books and Book Chapters:

1. Author 1, A.; Author 2, B. Book Title, 3rd ed.; Publisher: Publisher Location, Country, Year; pp. 154–196.
2. Author 1, A.; Author 2, B. Title of the chapter. In Book Title, 2nd ed.; Editor 1, A., Editor 2, B., Eds.; Publisher: Publisher Location, Country, Year; Volume 3, pp. 154–196.

Unpublished materials:

Unlike published works, websites may change over time or disappear, so we encourage you create an archive of the cited website using a service such as WebCite. Archived websites should be cited using the link provided as follows:

1. Title of Site. URL (archived on Day Month Year).

If the above references need to list author information, all authors within five (including five) are required to be listed; authors other than five authors can be replaced by et al.

3.4.16 Appendices

In case there is a need to present lengthy, but essential methodological details, use appendices, which can be a part of the article. An appendix must not exceed three pages.  A single appendix should be titled APPENDIX, while more than one can be titled APPENDIX A, APPENDIX B, and so on.

3.4.17 Supportive/Supplementary Material

Supplemental material can be a video, dataset, fileset, sound file or anything which supports (and is pertinent to) your paper.

5. Peer Reviewers

You may suggest potential peer reviewers for your manuscript. If you wish to do so, please provide institutional email addresses where possible, or information which will help the Editor to verify the identity of the reviewer (for example an ORCID or Scopus ID). Intentionally falsifying information, for example, suggesting reviewers with a false name or email address, will result in rejection of your manuscript and may lead to further investigation in line with our misconduct policy.

6. Excluding Peer Reviewers

During submission you may enter details of anyone who you would prefer not to review your manuscript.
